This is an image of one of the oldest trees known on the planet. The Bristlecone pine has a unique method of growth and survival and is said to be nearly a millennium older than most trees. These giants can be seen in the White Mountains of the Great Basin national park right here in california! However, it was discovered just this year that in Sweden a small spruce tree has signs of life dating back 9500 years! twice that of the pine. Though, images of this little post ice-age spruce are trumped by the massive bristlecone. It is also interesting to note that in Kings canyon national park east of LA, a couple specs of ancient redwoods can be found.
